"Lord" Layyous
His journey began in 1981 when he left St. Joseph High School bound for USA. Adonis Layyous needed two more years to graduate from St. Joseph, but his father felt it necessary for him to leave Lebanon due to the deteriorating war conditions at that time.
That same year, he took and passed the high school equivalency test in USA. That allowed him to go straight to university. He completed his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering in 1986. Most recently, he received a Masters of Business Administration that he completed through correspondence.
Since 1998, Adonis has been working with Crane Pumps & Systems, a large U.S. manufacturer of all kinds of pumps for the water, wastewater, commercial and industrial markets. They are based in Piqua, Ohio, a small town north of Dayton. He started out as their Middle East Sales Manager. In 2001, Adonis became the International Sales Manager responsible for all markets outside of USA and Canada. This requires a lot of traveling, a chore he no longer enjoys like before as it keeps him away from his family a lot. A couple of weeks ago, he was in Shanghai, China where he sent us his best wishes.
Adonis is married to a Lebanese lady. Her name is Aline. He has an 11-year-old boy named Alex, a 7-year-old daughter named Amanda and they are expecting their second boy in October. They will name him Andrew.
“For those of you that were my classmates, you knew how athletic I was. Well those early years of sports activity took a toll on my body. Although I still enjoy playing tennis every once in a while, I do feel the pain next morning in my knees and ankles. I also enjoy camping and reading. Through the years, I have always tried to keep in contact with my high school. The bond that we developed through those years is extremely difficult to break. When I meet a St. Joseph Alumni that I have not seen for over 20 years, you can feel the static in the air. You immediately bond with that person no matter where life’s journey had taken him. I said him and not her because during my time, only boys were allowed… I would like to say that I am very proud to have experienced those early years at St. Joseph High School. This pride grows day by day as I come across other alumni and discover the same feelings. Almost all of them have done extremely well in their careers. When you have a strong base, the sky is the limit as they say. We certainly were blessed to have experienced one of the best high school education systems that any person can dream of. Now that we have the SJS Alumni web site, my dream of having a class reunion is going to come true. I will make every effort to have one next year. Good luck to you and all the other past and future graduates.” - Adonis
