Dr. Edward Zamrini at the University of Alabama, Birmingham

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is one of three institutions of higher learning within the University of Alabama system. UAB has 14 undergraduate schools including the School of Medicine and numerous other graduate school programs. UAB enrolls almost 17,000 students and has more than 16,000 faculty and staff. A poll of academic physicians ranked UAB among the top three medical centers in the nation, along with the Mayo Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospital. Its residency program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The Department of Neurology at UAB deals with the diagnosis and non-surgical management of diseases of the central nervous system, the peripheral nervous system, and muscles. Dr. Edward Zamrini, Assistant Professor at the Department of Neurology and SJS fellow alumnus is actually working on methods to stamp out Alzheimer’s disease. Research has been ongoing throughout the nation on the detection, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and other memory and cognitive disorders.
