SJS Alumni House

Design Brief

This is a first attempt to define our future Alumni House.

Our next meeting to follow-up on this topic is Monday Feb. 23 at 7:00pm at SJS. We encourage all professionals to be there and share their opinions.

The alumni house is functionally very close to a community center. The site's definition of the proposed project will be adapted and compatible to the function program which is proposed as follows:

THE FUNCTIONAL PROGRAM

Entrance and reception	25 m²
2 offices for administration	35 m²
1 meeting room to accommodate 10 people	25m²
1 computer room for e-mails and internet etc	20 m²
1 lounge (multipurpose function)	125 m²
1 kitchenette and 2 toilets	15 m²
1 mechanical room	15m²
Exterior space (big terrace)	50m²
Parking for 10 cars

The total gross area accommodating the above-mentioned program will be 275 m².

THE SITE

The close interaction as mentioned above between the site and the program leads us to define the site required for the project.

The building footprint	275m²
The open space and circulation	75 m²
The parking lot (for 10 cars)	250m²

The required area for the site is 600 m².

The Physical Factors Of The Site

The good solar orientation:
- The slope is oriented southward with the largest side towards the South.
- A low expose to the winds
The topography of the site: It will be ideal to have a rather flat site to avoid the construction of retaining walls which will cause an increase on the cost of the project
The environmental and other contextual issues

THE BUDGET

The aim in this project is to target for a low budget using rough materials with an efficient procedure for construction based on two factors: time and flexibility. This will enhance the simplicity of the project without jeopardizing the esthetic of the building in general.
This project could be phased to accomodate budget constraints.
